Is it possible to combine a cultural visit to one of Europe’s most beautiful cities whilst keeping your space enthusiast entertained? We look at the things to do in Seville, the fourth-largest city in Spain and one of the most magical European travel destinations. 

October half term offers a perfect opportunity to explore southern Spain. With an incredibly rich culture, heritage and modern development Andalucian towns and cities are the places to be. But what if you are looking to ignite your children’s curiosity for space while introducing them to the rich cultural heritage. Is it possible to combine them? The answer is, yes, and the beautiful city of Seville is just the place to visit.

What can you do in 3 days so that your family learns about space, astronomy, and culture while absorbing the incredible beauty of this magical city? 

Day 1

Surrounded by palm tree and some spectacular histiroal building a visit to The Casa de la Ciencia Museum will quench the curiosity of all your family members. 

 

The Casa de la Ciencia Museum

This building opened to the public in 2008 with the goal of sharing contemporary scientific knowledge through research and information on environmental issues. The museum achieves these goals by putting on various types of events, including exhibitions, conferences, seminars and workshops. 

Only costing €3 each this is a compact but interesting museum. The museum also contains a planetarium which is presented in both English and Spanish.

Day 2 

Plan a day trip out. You can rent a car for a day and head to  The Almadén de la Plata Astronomical Observatory, 60 kilometres north fo Seville. This is the largest astronomical observatory in Spain, located in the heart of Spanish the milky way star gazing. If you are used to the cloudy sky in the North European hemisphere, a visit to an Andalucian observatory will guarantee to blow your mind. In fact, it is visits like this, that will see your younger and less excited members of the family becoming true space enthusiasts. NOTE: Please check the open time and availability.

Remember to plan your stops and sample some delicious food half way through your journey in the little town of Las Pajanosas or the village of Santa Olalla del Cala renowned for its Moorish castle, olive groves and Iberian ham production. 

Day 3

Remember to enjoy Seville and take your time to relax in this amazing city. 

 

Take your time to explote this magnificent city that has something for everyone. For the Star Wars fans The Plaza de España in Seville is a must. This monumental historical place that shares Spanish history and geography also featured in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002). The  scenes from Star Wars was filmed on September 13, 2000 for an AOTC sequence where Anakin and Padmé arrive on Naboo.

For some delicious, ‘big bang’ food experiences rememebr to visit local food markets. These traditional places offer so much more than just food! Embrace the fireworks of honest local cuisine and breath in the beautiful Sevillian air of love for life and good wine. There are seven historial options including MERCADO DE TRIANA where you can also learn to cook some local gastronomical wonders 

And of course the universal magic of Flamenco. There are some excellent Flamenco shows the visit to which resemble being iside a nebule – in a passionate and intimae athosphine of hot air, live music and talented passionate perfortmace with your own eyes you will experience the birth of the stars in the university of dance. 

And as the sun begins to set around 19.30 in the evening, head for the rooftop swimming pool in your hotel (hotel ideas provided below) to do some hand of star gazing and planet spotting.
