The Astronomical Society of Galsgow
The Astronomical Society of Glasgow is the largest Astronomical Society in Scotland and is dedicated to promoting an interest in Astronomy.
The Society has been promoting Astronomy in Glasgow for over 100 years. Membership of the Society is open to all; and anyone, even with the vaguest interests in Astronomy, is welcome to find out what the Society is about.
The Society holds nine regular monthly lecture meetings from September through to May each year. Lectures are held in the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow city centre at 7.30pm, normally on the third Thursday of each month, however this does occasionally change to allow us to welcome some of our speakers who have busy schedules.
All topics of Astronomy are covered in the lectures from Planetary Science to Astrophotography and The Search for Life Beyond Earth. The lectures are free and are open to members and non-members alike. Prior to each meeting a Newsletter is circulated to the Membership giving details of the speaker, the lecture topic and other matters of timely interest.
Highlands Astronomical Society
The Highlands Astronomical Society exists to promote and extend the awareness of, interest in, and enjoyment of Astronomy within a friendly and stimulating Environment, hosting Educational, Practical and Social Activities in the local area, accessible to all ages and level of knowledge.
The Society seeks to achieve its aims through a varied programme of Meetings, Activities and Events, including Talks, Exhibitions, Observing Sessions open to the Public and Social Events. The Highlands Astronomical Society also aims to contribute worthwhile Observational Data to National and International Astronomical Organisations.
The Society normally meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the Smithton Church, Inverness, from 7:00pm (for a 7:15pm start) until 9:30pm. The January Meeting is on the second Tuesday of the month. The “YOUNGSTARS” meet prior to the main Meeting, from 6.45pm – 7.15pm.
The Astronomical Society of Edinburgh (ASE) has been holding meetings in Edinburgh to inform members and the general public about astronomy since 1924. We aim to have something happening at least three times a month. The first Friday of each month will be a hybrid meeting at 7:30pm at the Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh. This will also be broadcast on Zoom for ASE members and YouTube for visitors. Our second talk, sometime around the middle of the month, will just be on Zoom and YouTube.
