Space Dome Mobile Planetarium Shows
What is a Space Dome?
A Space Dome is essentially a large dome which can show movies and still images to visitors. It is both educational and fun and appeals to all ages – just so long as they have an interest in the world beyond our own.
Up to 30 visitors come into the space dome for shows which last up to half an hour.
How do they work?
The planetarium is inflated by a large fan which is attached through an ‘air tube’. It takes approximately 10 minutes to fully inflate.
Once inflated the presenter explains to the visitors that they need to enter the dome in a safe and orderly way, and as quickly as possible, to prevent as much air as possible escaping.
When all the visitors are inside the dome the door can be zipped up and the fan will re-inflate the dome to its maximum size.
As soon as the dome is full of air the presenter can begin the show.
Who are the shows for?
The shows that Wonderdome shows accommodate just about anyone who enjoys watching a show. We can present shows that are very visual, with limited language. Other shows go into detail about specific areas of space exploration. We teach children as young as 2 and adults who already have extensive knowledge on many of the topics around space.
Some visitors are wheelchair bound, and simply lifting the edges of the dome enables a smooth entrance and exit.
The type of shows that are shown is agreed in advance to ensure that the maximum benefit if the experience is achieved.
What kind of shows are there?
To accommodate the wide range of visitors we have to the dome we have developed an extensive range of shows which meet all needs.
Shows vary in length from 10 minutes to 50 minutes.
Our shows range from short visual experiences of the planets all the way up to detailed explanations of galaxies.
You can see our range of shows here.
Where can they be set up?
The Wonderdome Space Dome can be set up in any suitably large indoor space. Typically, these spaces are school or church halls, but we have had some really unique locations too!
The height of the room where the dome will be located must be around the height you could play Badminton in.
Ideally, the dome will be set up in a place which is quiet. Having noises outside the dome can spoil the effects for the people on the inside.
Who presents the shows?
All of our shows are led by our wonderful presenters. The presenters have a passion for communicating their knowledge about space.
Much of our feedback comments on how great the presenters are, particularly when they are questioned at the end of a session.
